Ring Carving Workshop at Tallulah Lingerie in Islington, London
I am delighted to be offering an intimate ring carving workshop at Tallulah Lingerie on Sunday, September 21st from 11-2 followed by an open hour of shopping! It will be an afternoon full of inspiration, mindful making and some good laughs among women as you design and create your own bespoke ring. And to celebrate there will be champagne, tasty treats and a selection of beverages!
In this 3-hour hands-on workshop you will learn all the skills required to design and create your own unique ring using ancient wax carving techniques! This workshop is a perfect opportunity to free your mind, get creative and connect with other like-minded people whilst making a special heirloom. We hold a lot of sentiment in the jewellery we wear. It has the power to transport us, to bring back memories of loved ones and experiences. Hand-making a special heirloom only amplifies this. You can use this time to make the perfect present for a loved one or make a special ring to celebrate yourself.
No need to come with a design in mind, the creative process will allow some time to brainstorm with inspiring materials to help you come up with your very own and unique piece of jewellery.
Spaces are limited to 8 people to allow for plenty of one-on-one guidance. I would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment. Come alone or come with a friend :)
By the end of the session you will have completed a carving of your ring design as a wax master in jewellers wax only. You can then choose to have your wax ring cast into sterling silver (or gold, if you prefer) and hand polished to your desired finish. This process takes about 2 weeks.
The prices for casting/polishing are as follows:
Silver: 60*
22ct Gold Vermeil: 105*
Solid gold: determined by the weight of your ring
To add gemstones: starting at 25 (you can also bring your own, and pay only the setting fee)
Engraving (Initials, name or short phrase): 30
*This price includes materials to make a ring up to 5mm wide or 10g of silver. If you'd like to upgrade to a thicker ring, you will simply be charged for the additional weight of silver (calculated in class based on the final weight).
If you would like to upgrade to solid gold you may do this on the day. We will weigh the wax model to determine the cost of gold.
Knowledge required
This class is perfect for beginners - no prior experience is needed. However, if you do have experience, I will cater to you and add extra challenges to build on your skills.
The workshop includes
A glass of champagne, tea and other beverages
Snacks and tasty treats
Drawing materials
All tools and materials: customised wax ring blanks, wax files, a selection of carving tools, sandpaper and sanding sticks, fine point engraving tools and safety thimbles for your fingers
Step-by-step wax carving tutorials and one-on-one assistance
Lots of fun, of course!
What to bring
Just yourself and an idea (or two or three, if you can't decide yet)!
