Ring Carving Workshop at Tallulah Lingerie in Islington, London
I am delighted to be offering an intimate ring carving workshop at Tallulah Lingerie on Saturday, March 21st from 14.30-17.30. It will be an afternoon full of inspiration, mindful making and some good laughs among women as you design and create your own bespoke ring. And to celebrate there will be champagne, tasty treats and a selection of beverages!
In this 3-hour hands-on workshop you will learn all the skills required to design and create your own unique ring using ancient wax carving techniques! This workshop is a perfect opportunity to free your mind, get creative and connect with other like-minded people whilst making a special heirloom. We hold a lot of sentiment in the jewellery we wear. It has the power to transport us, to bring back memories of loved ones and experiences. Hand-making a special heirloom only amplifies this. You can use this time to make the perfect present for a loved one or make a special ring to celebrate yourself.
Spaces are limited to 7 people to allow for plenty of one-on-one guidance. I would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment. Come alone or come with a friend :)
The workshop will begin with an introduction to the rich history of the lost wax casting process and how it’s done in our studio. We will then spend some time looking through a selection of rings in all styles, shapes and textures to begin brainstorming your idea. There will be books, gemstones and plenty to draw inspiration from! You will then learn how to draw out your ring idea onto paper, this will act as your roadmap when you are ready to begin carving.
You’ll be guided step-by-step through the wax carving process. First by sizing your wax accordingly, then by applying your design to the wax. I do tailer a portion of the workshop to each individual's design, but will also cover all the different methods and techniques used in wax carving for lost wax casting. There will be a broad variety of tools to help you in creating your specific design. From a variety of professional wax files, to specially formed carving tools, and even wax pens and hot tools to create beautiful textures and molten designs.
Once you’re finished carving you can choose your desired finish along with gemstones and engraving if you’d like!
By the end of the session you will have completed a carving of your ring design as a wax master in jewellers wax only. You can then choose to have your wax ring cast into recycled sterling silver for a fee (or gold, if you prefer) and hand polished to your desired finish. The casting and polishing is all done in-house takes about 2-3 weeks. Gold vermeil requires an extra 5-7 business days and is done at the Goldsmiths Centre in Hatton Garden. Please find prices below.
There will be some exciting optional upgrades available in-class, including gemstone setting, gold plating or engraving to make your ring even more special (available for pre-purchase or to add on the day).
You can upgrade to have your wax ring cast in solid 9ct/18ct gold or platinum on the day. Your wax model will be weighed to determine the precious metal price. The prices for casting/polishing are as follows:
Recycled Sterling Silver Ring Cast + Polished:
5mm wide ring (+£70)

Gemstone & Setting (prices start at £25)
